The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine is covered under the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. However, the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine is NOT covered under the VICP.
The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program was originally established as the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. Because of this, the program only covers a variety of vaccinations often given during childhood and the potential injuries and reactions that can stem from them. Since the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine is commonly given to adults aged 65 and older, it is not covered under the Vaccine Injury Program.
